Galliano For Dior 1999 Green Silk Cheongsam Blouse
A 1999 Dior by Galliano green silk plissé cheongsam blouse. This traditional Chinese cheongsam inspired blouse. In an interview with Vogue, Galliano explains that he was fascinated with Chinese culture; he gained this fascination through the help of movies. This fascination is apparent in this collection. The Mandarin collar going into gold lamé frog closures cascading down in an asymmetric manner adds a further nod to the Chinese influence. The fine green silk in plissé pleats allows for the blouse to fit the figure of the wearer but also adds a stretch that makes for the blouse to be more comfortable. Around the hem and edges of the sleeves, there is a braided cord in the same colour as the blouse; this features bronze metal and cream ceramic beads. These beads are added for both aesthetics and function; helping to weigh down the silk fabric.
